MERMAID DRESS is an original and unique light sculpture, created by Renata Giannelli in 2024 .

The work is born from a complex interweaving of fired iron wires , hand-shaped into a deliberately irregular and dynamic structure, subsequently covered with hemp pulp and enriched with fragments of handmade paper sewn together by the artist . The structure evokes the silhouette of a dress and, at the same time, that of an organic and fluid figure, balanced between body, nature, and matter.

Inside the sculpture , 240 warm LED lights shine through the weave of the structure and the surface of the paper, creating a suggestive interplay of transparencies, shadows, and volumes . The light becomes an integral part of the work and, diffusing through the paper fibers, highlights its texture, irregularities, and the complexity of the weave.

When illuminated, Sirena Dress takes on an almost immaterial dimension: the material seems to dissolve in the light and the structure takes on an enveloping, dramatic presence. The contrast between the solidity of the iron, the fragility of the paper, and the lightness of the light generates a dialogue between strength and vulnerability, body and nature, matter and transparency .

Made in life-size , the sculpture measures 165 cm in height , with a maximum width of approximately 130 cm and a depth of 50 cm . It weighs approximately 15 kg .

Sirena Dress is a unique piece , entirely handmade by the artist. For shipping, it is packaged in special packaging made of sewn jute bags , further protected inside a rigid container to ensure the safety of the work during transport.

The sculpture comes with a certificate of authenticity .
